Dusk over the Nile
O Hapi! Witness to the construction of the pyramids,
provider of water, from your distant African source,
to your lands downstream that farmers water with their sweat.
O source of inspiration for poets and musicians!
When your melodious wavelets sing at dawn and dusk,
while your graceful palm trees, water lilies, and papyrus
sway gently in the breeze.
O Nile! As I see the shadows hovering over you,
my thoughts turn to your majestic pharaohs,
once fearsome, now restless in their tombs
fearing that their great benefactor would one day dry up!
