Bedouin woman poetry
However, in the poems composed before the discovery of oil we notice a different tone in describing the separation since it is frequently accompanied by a dramatic scene of waiting. Furthermore the distinction lies in this scene of waiting which seems to be concealed or delayed in the poems about instrumental technology. It is, perhaps, more appropriate to examine a couple of poems composed before the discovery of oil so we can see the distinct articulation of absence and separation displayed in the scene of waiting. The speaker articulates the moment of waiting for the beloved in vivid imagery and the entire poem focuses on this moment of anticipation. Is the beloved going to arrive? Is he coming home from his travel? The speaker gazes in the distance, waiting until the end of the day. The poet describes woman’s waiting:

I climbed the lofty place and stayed waiting;
When I descended, sunset bent down in me.
O I wish I were riding a fast camel,
Noble, which would carry its rider across the mirage’s heart
To follow a beloved who would capture me
While the rest of the tribe had no effect upon my mind.

Salamah, rise and bring me the binoculars;
my eyesight has weakened
since the day
they left in the car.
My heart fled
but I brought it back.

I shiver from the transparent north wind;
It marks me every morning and afternoon,
Because I always cast a glance at the travelers
While I wait for his exhausted, old, fatted camel.
It marks me every morning and afternoon,
Because I always cast a glance at the travelers
While I wait for his exhausted, old, fatted camel.
