More than thirty years ago, a high school classmate committed suicide by jumping off the Sidi M'Cid bridge in Constantine, following her failure in the baccalaureate.

The day after the announcement of the results, I crossed paths with her at the entrance of the bridge. Her sad gaze left me speechless. I wished I could comfort her, assure her that everything would be alright. However, before I could say anything, she was gone. A few steps further, I heard screams behind me and when I turned around, I was paralyzed in place. Passersby were trying to hold her back, their arms outstretched, but it was already too late, she had made her fatal decision.

Despite the years that have passed, the memory of this classmate who left too soon remains vivid. Every time I cross the Sidi M'Cid bridge, a deep sadness overwhelms me and I silently pay tribute to her.
